Camden Bar and Kitchen – NW1
The mighty Thames provides a welcome barrier between the wonders of South London and the horrors of the north. Looking at my map of breakfasts, I realise that although I often make the journey into the west end, I very rarely venture further north.
So on this rather bright and beautiful Sunday morning I took my quest into deepest, darkest, north London. Bravely I headed up to the Camden Bar and Kitchen, on the high street between Camden and Mornington Crescent tube stations.
I could happily imagine coming here for breakfast every weekend if I lived in the area. I rather fashionable mix of artfully miss-matched chairs, distressed wooden floor and black and white photographs. To my delight they serve breakfast until 4pm, which is fantastic for those who like a more leisurely approach to the first meal of the day.
My feelings of good will towards the Camden Bar and Kitchen however soon evaporated. The Eggs Benedict arrived, it was big, but it certainly wasn’t pretty. The eggs were suspiciously flat and round, although reasonably well cooked. The hollandaise had an eggy scrambled appearance and tasted sickly. The ham was thick and the muffin toasted, but they couldn’t really make up for the hollandaise that they were covered in.

More bemusing, the eggs Benedict was served with a MASSIVE portion of chips. My parents, in their infinite wisdom, have left me with a deep seated guilt if I leave anything on my plate. I therefore resent being given a huge portion of chips with my breakfast. I had no wish to order them and certainly no wish to eat them.
I really did like the look and feel of the venue, unfortunately they provided a thoroughly disappointing breakfast.
