Thwarted at Heathrow T5

As I don’t usually travel on anything other than sleazyjet, flying business class from Heathrow Terminal 5 was a rather exciting prospect. The fact that I was heading for a weekend away with IMM in Norway just added to the sense of adventure.

I’d been reliably informed that Gordon Ramsey’s Plane Food at T5 served an excellent Eggs Benedict, so I made sure that I arrived in plenty of time so I could sample its delights.

Food in Business Class on BATerminal 5 does a pretty good job of being better than all the other airports I’ve been to in the UK (although still not a patch on Hong Kong). Unfortunately what it is sadly lacking in is Eggs Benedict after midday. Plane Food, to my disappointment, only serves breakfast until noon. The 5 Tuns (a plastic pub before security) had Eggs Benedict mentioned on the internet, but none on the menu. Another ‘pub’ after security stop serving it mid morning. Thwarted.

Instead I headed into the lounge to sample the gin and tonic and admire the superb views out across the runway. Getting increasingly hungry I had to make do with the food on the plane. It was a joy to discover that it didn’t come in cartons with foil lids and still better with real cutlery! Flying sleazyjet at new year is going to be a real comedown.

So what is your score for the Terminal 5′s Eggs Benedict (from 1 to 5)

You missed nothing at Plain (sic) Food. Benedict is disappointing. Stingy with the hollandaise, frequently undercooked eggs
, the cheapest ham – I suspect the local cooperative or perhaps a 7/11 store – and only one half of a muffin. Very poor. Blog is great btw, I too am searching for the perfect eggs Benedict!
